- Carnero Abat, Guillermo
- b. 1947, ValenciaPoetGuillermo Carnero is one of the most important of the poets who renovated poetry in the late 1960s. The self-conscious aestheticism of his first book, Dibujo de la muerte (A Sketch of Death) (1967), contrasts with the dominant modes of post-war poetry. The difficult and highly intellectual poetry of Variaciones y figuras sobre un tema de La Bruyère (Variations and Figures on a Theme of La Bruyère) and El azar objetivo (Objective Chance) (1975) investigates the relationship between language and reality. Carnero teaches at the University of Alicante and is a prominent scholar of eighteenth-century literature.JONATHAN MAYHEW
